Maddie and Kiara had a wonderful day at Biscuits Doggie Day Care and Danny, James and I drove about an hour into Seattle to explore.
The
adventure began at Pike's Place Market, it was the first time we had taken the truck
into a low ceiling parking garage, to say that I was a little nervous was an
understatement. We made it through and found a place to park that our truck
would fit into with minimal issue. The antenna kissed the ceiling a few times
but thankfully the truck remained unscathed.
Pikes
Market remains to be a flurry of activity and an awesome assault on the senses.
I was surprised at how much I remembered the last time we were at Pikes Market
and had gone on the food tour. We did not do the food tour this time, but we
did wait in line for the donuts, OMG! YUM!
They are
very similar to Danny’s Donuts in Old Sac, Danny thought Danny’s donuts tasted
much better and I agree by a slight hare as Danny adds a pinch of cinnamon to
his batter giving the basic donut a bit more flavor. These were still delicious
and Danny was covered in powdered sugar as the last one was devoured.
We passed
the fish stall with the fish mongers that throw the fish, alas no fish were
thrown this time.
Here is a
link what it usually looks like:
Our quest
then began in earnest as I very fondly remember a science fiction store that
sold amazing collectibles, and after navigating a few passages and went down a
flight, we found Pike’s Market Golden Age Collectibles. This shop is basically
a comic book shop that also sells movie scripts. I picked up a copy of the
Goonies script as we prepare for the Astoria adventure. (That is coming towards
the end of this epic adventure).
A little
ways down the hall from the Comic book shop is BLMF Literary Saloon, this is a
used book shop and had so many books. It reminded me of the old A Perfect Book
Store in Roseville, which was a perfect bookstore but sadly closed a few years
ago. The shop was small but stacked beautifully with piles of books everywhere
that were sorted by author and genre. I found a Pirate Book and a copy of the
Lemony Snickett biography for Danny. James found a wonderful Japanese shop called
Osara Commissary and picked up some new chopsticks and holders.
We
meandered amongst the countless stalls, Danny picked out a beautiful ring and a
hand blown glass ornament, pink of course.
For lunch
we enjoyed an incredible view of the water at the Athenian Seafood Restaurant
which has a claim to fame for being featured in Sleepless in Seattle. They had plaques
on their booth where Tom Hanks and Rob Reiner sat in one of the scenes. (I need
to re-watch this movie).
We
returned to the car and decided to head over to Komo Plaza and (which is at the
Space Needle).
I was surprised
at how warm it got today considering the cold wet weather of just a few days
earlier. We had heard there was an epic playground outside the museum of pop
culture, and it did not disappoint. Danny was in awe and happily climbed and
played for almost an hour and a half. We decided to hold off on the Space
Needle and surrounding museums on this trip partly due to expense and time. We
are able to get Danny to willingly comply with our morning exploration but by
afternoon he is needing a park to run around, so we have found a balance of a
morning excursion and playground time in the afternoon.
The
traffic on the way home was less than desirable (and we left Seattle at 3 pm)
but we made it within an hour and a half and managed to hit a grocery store.
Tomorrow
is another travel day and we are headed to Sequim, WA to the Dungeness Campground
After
today I don’t know what our signal situation will be so I will try and continue
to regularly upload when I can.
