Today felt like we all slept in (ahem 7:44 am), so by the time we packed up and headed out it was nearly 8:40 am. (We had planned on going to the beach after breakfast so we had to pack up everything for the beach, including a picnic lunch).
James found a breakfast place called the Blue Buoy. We arrived to the Westport Wharf area, astonished at the lack of parking at 9 in the morning. We finally found a place in what felt like a far off distant field. The Pirate Festival had apparently been holding out yesterday. Today the wharf felt a lot more transformed with twice the amount of vendors and everyone dressed in their best Pirate Garb. The place was swarming with people.
We traipsed over to the restaurant and got in line and
discovered there was some confusion as to whether or not to wait in line or to
put your name on a list. A few minutes later we had it all sorted, and put our
name on the list but first ensuring that the people ahead of us all had their
names put down too.
The waitress thought it might be 5 or 10 minutes as she took
our names down, or we could get take out. We opted to eat in the restaurant.
About 20 minutes later our name was called and we sat down in the slightly cooler
restaurant. Ordered, and waited for our food.
It was worth the wait, the food was delicious. James got the
French toast, Danny a pancake that was the size of a dinner plate, and I got
the Dungeness crab and cheddar omelet. Feeling rather
stuffed we headed back to our car and then to the Westport Light State Beach Park.
I headed back to our site so I could stow our left overs and grab items we had
forgotten.
I arrived back at the beach and it was glorious. As I walked to the beach today I noticed that the trail smelled sweetly of Boysen Berries, and it occurred to me that most of the beach areas we visited in WA all had this very sweet scent. We had thought we might change beaches at one point but decided not to as Danny had found a wonderful friend to play with and we ended up staying there from 11 am to 4 pm.

We returned to camp and James and showered off the sand and sunscreen. Danny finished watching part one of the Hobbit while James and I set about making a dinner of all our left overs.
Then we watched Goonies, since tomorrow we are going to Fort
Stevens which is just a short 20 minutes from ASTORIA. If you are not a child
of the 80s or into movies, Goonies is one of the best kids movies ever made and
a favorite of James and mine. We have been to Astoria before when Danny was a
baby and we had vowed to return one day, well that day is coming up in the next
few days!
